Frankincense and myrrh, two venerated
gifts sourced from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia
and the Commiphora, respectively – make marvelous
partners in healing! Both have been tapped
throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly
Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more assets
tackle issues with a variety of health
conditions, many that Pflugerville Wellness Center knows bother our
Pflugerville chiropractic patients and/or loved ones who may want to
understand better!
THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh
Chinese medicine admires frankincense
and myrrh for their wide-ranging beneficial
health effects. Used in combination, their anti-inflammatory and
analgesic effects and significantly for anti-tumor effects prevented
growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh
are elements of an anti-tumor drug for a variety of
cancers with recent research revealing
its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By controlling
pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting
the blood vessels that feed tumors in HCC. Tumor
volume was reduced, and pathological structure was weakend
with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled
urotheilial wound healing to improve symptoms of acute interstitial
cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. (3) The
frankincense/myrrh combo proves itself to be a
winning/healing one!
NEUROPATHIC PAIN
Pflugerville Wellness Center appreciates combinations of
treatments to help our Pflugerville chiropractic patients seeking
healing. Chinese medicine treats diabetic neuropathy, a serious
complication of diabetes and trigger of kidney disease,
by regulating pathways involved in the
glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation,
anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic
pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is explained
as being able to stimulate blood and disperse
blood stasis. The combination
was tested and found to ease neuropathic
pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to preventing TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Pflugerville Wellness Center
knows all this detail may not be your “thing” of wanting
to understand as in depth as this, but we want to share
the whole story if only to get to the point
that frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great result!
